About

Basic composting science, class to be held at the Corrales Community Library, will be presented with a special focus on practices for a high desert climate. A variety of home composting options will be covered. Take-home information will help a participant get started and/or improve an already chosen composting method. Prior to the class it may be useful to read our brochures: (1) Composting in the Desert, and (2) Selecting a Method that Works for You. Instructor: Kristi Vasquez. Kristi has been a Sandoval Extension Master Gardener since 2024 and a Bernalillo County Extension Master Composter since 2025.  She has been composting in New Mexico for 3 years (successfully for 2) and fallen in love with the Bokashi Bucket Method.   Her love of compost came from wanting to convert her "beach/sand" of a backyard into useful, nutrient rich organic matter filled soil.  The class is free and open to the public.
